The Edinburgh International Photography Exhibition

162nd edinburgh international photography exhibition 1024x768 mpc ad

The Edinburgh International is one of the most highly regarded photographic exhibitions in the UK and one of the few print-only international salons in the world. Each year, the exhibition attracts thousands of entries from photographers across the globe, drawn by its long history, high standards and distinctive focus on the printed image.

First held in 1861, the same year the Edinburgh Photographic Society (EPS) was founded, the exhibition has grown into one of the premier showcases of photographic art anywhere in the world.

What makes the Edinburgh International unique is our commitment to quality. We only accept as many prints as can be physically displayed. Gaining an acceptance here is a significant achievement, highly prized by photographers who return to compete year after year.

All accepted prints are exhibited at the Society’s premises during the Edinburgh Festivals in August, when we welcome thousands of visitors from around the world. Many return each year to see how photographers continue to interpret the world through their lenses.

Every accepted image also appears in our catalogue, a beautifully printed record of the exhibition and a celebration of the art of photography in its physical form.

Enter our 2026 Salon!

There are no genre restrictions, and entrants may submit up to four colour and four monochrome prints. All images must originate as original captures by light made by the entrant. The rules and all other details can be found here

Your prints need to arrive in Edinburgh by 3rd June. The Exhibition of accepted prints will take place in August 2026 during the Edinburgh Festivals.

Photographers who enter will receive free admission to the exhibition and a full-colour printed catalogue featuring all accepted works.  Other visitors can pay by card at the door or purchase tickets through the Edinburgh Fringe Box Office.

Alongside the main exhibition, we present additional supporting exhibitions, which together offer a rich and rewarding visit. Take your time to explore the work on display and enjoy the full experience.

Hahnemühle UK — Proud Sponsor of the 162nd International Print Salon

We’re delighted to welcome Hahnemühle UK as a sponsor of this year’s International Print Salon — a fitting partnership for a competition that takes the craft of printing seriously.

“Founded in 1584, Hahnemühle has been producing premium quality paper for hundreds of years. Their target is to make paper that satisfies the highest expectations of artists and photographers, with production methods and quality control procedures that have been continuously optimised for over 400 years.”

A discount worth using

Through their UK distributor Fotospeed, Hahnemühle have arranged a limited-time discount across their photographic paper range — available until the competition closes. Whether you’re entering the Salon, preparing exhibition work, or simply curious about the range, it’s worth taking the opportunity while it’s there.

For our Gold Medal winners

Each Gold Medal winner will receive a box of A3+ Hahnemühle photographic paper — type of their own choosing. A small but considered gesture from a company that understands what a quality print means to the person who made it.

At the 162nd International Exhibition

When you visit the exhibition in August, you’ll also receive a Hahnemühle tote bag to carry away your copy of the 162nd Catalogue. Practical, and a decent reminder of a great visit.

EPS is grateful to Hahnemühle UK and Fotospeed for their support, and hope members and visitors alike will take the chance to explore what they offer.
