"The CD Group is all about exploring photography and having fun - from capture to display"
CD Photography at EPS
If you like experimenting with ideas, trying out different genres, or simply want to enjoy photography with others, this is the place for you. We cover everything from capture to display, and enjoy playing with the many “C’s” and “D’s” of photography. Think creativity, cameras, composition, cropping, and competitions. Add in depth of field, dynamic range, dodge and burn, digital editing, and darkroom work – and you get the idea. There’s no single way to describe us, which is why we’re simply called the CD Group.
What we do
Our programme is varied and informal. We meet on Monday evenings, either at the EPS premises in Great King Street or on Zoom (most in-person meetings are also streamed online). Activities include:
- Guest presentations and lectures
- Practical workshops and technical sessions
- Competitions for our group trophies
- Camera challenges and photo safaris
- Sharing images and giving constructive feedback
We like to keep things relaxed. You don’t need to attend every session, and like all our groups they come as part of your EPS membership. Do look out for meetings which are posted on our Events Calendar.
Our Annual Photo Safari
Each year we run a Photo Safari where members work in teams on a creative challenge. A selection of the 2024 Photo Safari photographs can be seen in the gallery below:
Competitions and Trophies
Our competitions bring out the best in members’ creativity and technical skills. We have three competitions and they determine the winners of our trophies. The trophies are the Gwyer Shield for the Online competition, the Digital Challenge Cup, for an image that demonstrates post-capture editing and the Cunningham Cup for a themed panel of three images. The Advanced and Intermediate cups are awarded for the best and second-best performance in competitions. A selection of winners will be added to a forthcoming gallery.
Why join?
The CD Group is about more than just images. It’s about sharing ideas, learning from each other, and enjoying photography in good company. Whether you’re new to EPS or a long-standing member, you’ll find a welcoming space to try something different, develop your skills, and have fun along the way.
