About EPS
The Edinburgh Photographic Society is a long-established photographic society based in Edinburgh, bringing together people who share an interest in photography in all its forms.
We are a member-led charitable organisation, run by volunteers, with a simple aim: to support, encourage and develop photography through learning, practice and shared experience. Our members range from those just starting out to highly experienced photographers, united by a curiosity for the medium and a willingness to learn from one another.
What we do
EPS offers a varied programme of activities designed to inspire, challenge and support photographers at every stage. This includes talks by visiting photographers, practical workshops, exhibitions, informal groups and opportunities to work on personal projects.
Alongside our programme of events, members benefit from access to dedicated photographic facilities and a welcoming community where ideas, techniques and feedback are openly shared.
A community built around photography
At its heart, EPS is a community. The society provides a space where members can develop their skills, explore new approaches, and engage with photography in a supportive and inclusive environment.
We encourage experimentation and creativity, whether that is through traditional processes, digital practice, documentary work, fine art, or more experimental approaches. The diversity of interests within the membership is one of the society’s strengths.
How the society is run
The society operates as a registered charity and is managed by an elected Council, supported by volunteers who give their time to keep EPS running smoothly. Decisions are made with the interests of the membership and the charitable objectives of the society in mind.
Clear governance, transparency and responsible stewardship underpin how EPS is run, ensuring the society remains sustainable and accessible for future generations of photographers.
Facilities and resources
EPS maintains dedicated photographic facilities in Edinburgh, including studio and darkroom spaces, which members can book and use as part of their practice. We also continue to invest in modern systems and resources that make it easier for members to engage with the society and make use of what is available.
Further details about facilities, access and booking can be found in the relevant sections of the website.
